Chinese Weight Loss Tea Reviewed
Chinese weight loss tea has become quite well known in America, and for good reason. Whether it's the long history of traditional use, or because of the methodologies of modern science that go into crafting the purest, most effective tea product, many regular men and women have discovered that it quite simply works.
That, of course, is a pretty big claim, given the many false promises in the weight loss supplement industry. Fortunately, in this case, science has discovered what the traditional Chinese folk knew - that certain teas could in fact speed up your metabolism, and help you lose weight. And many Americans have found out that this is true not just in the type of culture that existed hundreds of years ago in China, but true also in our modern and busy day-to-day life. Chinese weight loss tea is fact, not fiction.
Chinese Tea
There are eight broad types of teas in China. These are: black tea, green tea, oolong tea, red tea, white tea, scented tea, and compressed tea. And within those categories, there are in fact hundreds - maybe even more than a thousand - types of individual teas.
What creates this enormous variety of Chinese teas? Well, some of it is due to the fact that there are so many different variants of the Camilla plant (the species from which all tea is produced). And local growing conditions - the type of soil, altitude, and the way the plant is grown - also play a role. But the most important thing that affects how a tea will taste, and its' properties, is how it is processed after being harvested.
Types Of Chinese Weight Loss Tea
Except for red tea, which comes from the Aspalathis Linearis plant, all the other types of teas come from Camellia sinensis. Black tea is the most common type of tea to Westerners, but in Asia, this is probably eclipsed by green tea and other varieties. And interestingly, it is green tea that has such a great effect on metabolism. Green tea is not the only type of Chinese weight loss tea however.
Green Tea - The most well known type of Chinese weight loss teas in the West, green tea helps speeds up the metabolic rate, and reduce fat storage. And it does this whilst helping to reduce your appetite. No wonder it is so popular!
White Tea - This very pleasant tasting tea is made from young leaves and buds, and is less fermented than the other types of tea (all tea is fermented to some extent). White tea helps with the level of cholesterol in the blood, as well as having an anti-viral and anti-bacterial effect. It is often taken in China to support the immune system. Like green tea, it has thermogenic properties, which helps with burning calories.
Oolong Tea - This rather unusual sounding Chinese weight loss tea could be described as being somewhere between black and green tea in the classification scale. But that doesn't begin to do it justice. It is used in weight loss, and some people believe it is more effective than green tea. That could be due to the slightly higher caffeine content, though it is believed there may be another compound in oolong tea that contributes to its' effectiveness as a fat burner.
One study looked at whether it was just the caffeine content by providing subjects with caffeinated water as a control. The study did find that "energy expenditure" was slightly higher for the caffeinated water group (2.9% for tea, 3.4% for caffeinated water). However, fat oxidation was significantly higher in those drinking full strength oolong tea compared to the caffeinated water group - 12% higher.
How Chinese Weight Loss Tea Works
Scientists have a pretty good idea how Chinese weight loss tea works, though they haven't identified all the compounds responsible for those effects - yet, anyway! The good news is we don't need to know exactly how to pull an engine apart to drive a car. You might be surprised how much we do know, however!
Let's have a closer look at the different effects Chinese weight loss tea has on weight loss to gain a deeper understanding of why it works so well.
Reduces Appetite
We all know reducing our appetite is important when we're trying to lose weight - no matter how you roll the dice, if you eat too much, you're not going to lose weight. And many a diet has been sabotaged by cravings - midnight snacks, midday snacks, mid-afternoon snacks. The wrong food at the wrong time. Well, Chinese weight loss teas may just have an answer for that in the form of green tea.
Green tea helps reduce your appetite by regulating your blood sugar levels. If you know anything about blood sugar levels, you'll know those spikes and troughs have a direct impact on our cravings and our appetite - not to mention our energy levels! Well, a University of Chicago study on rats found that when they were injected with an extract of green tea, they ate 60% less food! And this was a result of the effect of green tea on their insulin levels.
Humans drinking green tea aren't going to get their appetite reduced by 60%. But green tea still has a positive effect on insulin levels and therefore appetite. Try drinking a glass with a carbohydrate rich meal - you'll notice the difference.
Fat Burning
When you lose weight you don't just want to lose any old type of weight, you want to lose excess fat. Whilst some people have scoffed at the idea that you can preferentially lose fat, the study on oolong tea that looked at caffeinated water alone versus full strength oolong tea, mentioned above, shows that it is possible.
Boost Metabolism
When you boost your metabolism, you increase the amount of stored fat you burn just going about your normal activities. And that effect becomes even more powerful when combined with exercise. Green tea has demonstrated in studies, time and time again, its' ability to increase thermogenesis - which is the rate at which your body burns calories. This not only helps shift the excess calories you have stored on your body, it also helps reduce your propensity to gain weight. This makes it a great way to maintain your ideal weight once you reach it.
Green tea has a rather special ability that prevents blood sugar levels rising too quickly after you eat a meal. If your blood sugar levels rise too fast, your body makes too much insulin, which not only leads to cravings, but leads to fat being stored instead of being burned off as energy. In fact, a glass of green tea is great after a high carbohydrate meal - even if you're not on a diet! It can make you feel less bloated, and improve digestion.
Other Health Benefits Of Chinese Weight Loss Tea
One of the things I like so much about using Chinese weight loss teas are that there are so many other health benefits. It's nice to know that as well as helping achieve your weight loss goals, you are helping your cholesterol levels, regulating your blood sugar, improving digestion, and giving your body all those extra antioxidants to help prevent aging and keep your skin clear.
There are a number of different ways you can take Chinese weight loss tea. You can try the individual teas - oolong, green tea, and a number of others. Or you can look at some of the combination Chinese weight loss formulas around. These, like so many of the traditional herbal formulas, have a synergistic effect where the sum is greater than their individual parts.
